Course Syllabus

Course Description:

bullet This is a full year introductory course in the study of Psychology. This course will examine the vast and diverse field of psychology, including prominent theorists, past and present, varied disciplines within psychology, and applications of the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. This course will emphasize active learning through demonstrations, discussions, debates, projects and other activities as well as lecture and direct instruction.

Expectations For Success:

bullet RESPECT: listen, mind your own and other’s property, ideas, beliefs
bullet RESPONSIBILITY: quality of work, actions, deadlines, etc.
bullet READINESS: bring necessary materials, notebook, homework, pen, etc.
bullet PARTICIPATE: share thoughts, questions, ideas, experiences……..

Attendance:

bullet Regular daily attendance is expected. Cutting class is unacceptable.
bullet School attendance policy will be strictly enforced
bullet Poor attendance will be reflected in your grade.

Promptly be seated when bell rings.

Grading:

bullet Your grade will be determined by a point system. The total number of possible points divided by the points accumulated will yield your grade average. The point breakdown is as follows:
bullet Test: 100 points Quizzes: 10-50 points Homework: 5-10 pts.
bullet Projects: To be announced when assigned Other Activities: TBA
bullet Class Participation: approximately 10% of total points at end of semester.
bullet You will be allowed to drop one quiz grade or two homework grades per semester.

Homework:

bullet Readings and/or written assignments are to be completed by due date. Late work will only be accepted immediately following an absence.
bullet District guidelines and policy with regard to plagiarism and cheating will be followed. A "0" will be given to any assignment deemed inappropriate.

Extra-help/Make-up work:

bullet Extra help is available after school most days. Check with me for details and scheduling. Feel free to see me then if convenient.
bullet You can contact me 24 hours a day via email, I check it several times daily.

bullet Marking Period 2- States of Consciousness, Learning, Memory and Cognition
bullet Marking Period 3- Developmental Psychology, Personality, Abnormal Psychology
bullet Marking Period 4- Health, Therapy, Social Psychology
