COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
As a result of this course of study the student should: |
1.
Develop an understanding of the power and excitement of ideas.
1.1 Become acquainted with faculty from various disciplines who convey the
enthusiasm of ideas.
1.2 Identify consequences of having and sharing ideas.
1.3 Connect ideas with worldviews from which they originate.
1.4 Identify cultural biases that constrain the ability to ask questions.
2.
Develop an appreciation for the liberal arts through an understanding of
distinct modes of inquiry of the various branches of liberal learning.
2.1 Identify modes of inquiry used in Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences,
and Natural Sciences.
2.2 Apply modes of inquiry to Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and
Natural Sciences through hands-on experiences and problem solving.
2.3 Examine the process and products of inquiry using books, film, and other
media.
3.
Become acquainted with the essential role each branch of liberal learning plays
in a comprehensive understanding of the world.
3.1 Identify distinct features of each branch of liberal learning.
4.
Develop an understanding of the interconnectedness of the branches of liberal
learning.
4.1 Identify common features of each branch of liberal learning.
5.
Develop the capacity for creative, critical, and analytical thought.
5.1 Analyze examples of others' creative, critical, and analytical thought.
5.2 Develop and analyze examples of one's own creative, critical, and analytical
thought.
6.
Develop the ability to ask relevant moral and ethical questions.
6.1 Understand approaches to moral and ethical decision-making in all branches
of liberal learning.
6.2 Identify distinct cultural connections with moral and ethical
decision-making.
7.
Become acquainted with knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and continuing
personal development.
7.1 Demonstrate information literacy.
7.2 Demonstrate and evaluate collaborative and individual learning.
7.3 Participate in and evaluate extracurricular activities related to the four
branches of liberal learning.
7.4 Demonstrate the ability to solve problems.
7.5 Identify in oneself an increase in confidence, curiosity, and desire for
continued learning.
8.
Develop the ability for effective written and oral communication.
8.1 Complete required written assignments.
8.2 Complete required oral assignments.
8.3 Participate in and evaluate presentations.
9.
Become skilled in the basic use of technology.
9.1 Create a document using a personal computer.
9.2 Find and use and evaluate information on the World Wide Web.
9.3 Send and receive an e-mail message with attachment.
